In the year 1932 Air India  was founded as Tata Airlines . Basically it is a flag carrier of India and owned by the Indian Governmnt. Mr.JRD Tata who in co-ordination eith Mr.Nevil Vintcent were the key people who involved in launching the Tata Airline. After world war 2nd the airline become a public limited company and got its new name as Air India.

           Air India’s current CEO is Mr. Rohith Nandan and their Junior Managing Director is Mr.Syed Nazir Ali . When government of india took over this airline after the independence it got the permit to run international services and then Air India came into existence. Air India’s head quarters are located in New Delhi.

The hand baggage limit permitted on board the Air India is controlled by the Bureau Of Civil Aviation and it differs slightly from place to place in case of international flights but remains consistent in domestic flights. The free check-in baggage for domestic flyers is all set to be reduced from 20 kg to 15 kg and a host of other charges or on the way .  Air India has decided to reduce the free baggage limit for economy passengers to 15kg and will charge anywhere between Rs 200 to Rs 250 per kg for excess weight .At present two bags of 23 kg each are allowed to economy passengers to and from US.

Should your baggage exceed the limitations of the free baggage allowance,  an excess baggage charge need to be paid.
For domestic sector within India , the excess baggage rate is INR 250  per kg, per coupon.  Service tax will be applicable on the value reflected on all baggage tickets(EBTs) as in the case of passenger tickets , the rate  service tax will be  4.944% of the excess baggage amount reflected on the  EBT.
Any item other than normal baggage (suitcase, bags etc) will be treated as special check-in item which will be charged separately irrespective Of pooling in the permissible baggage allowance .
According to the new rules which go into effect , the Airline will not allow an economy passengers to carry only 15kg against 25kg . Baggage in excess of 15kg will be charged at Rs200-250 a kg. At present , the excess baggage rate (Beyond 25kg) varies,  depending on the length of the journey
